Where most funeral directors ask for full payment in advance, we only require a deposit to cover the third party costs, which we pay on your behalf, and then we can work with you to discuss a payment plan that will suit your personal circumstances.
Our Mission
To alleviate the sorrow of parting, is to render a service to mankind. To this our every effort is respectfully dedicated.
Or
For those wishing for a quiet and dignified cremation, with all of the care of a ’traditional’ funeral, without the ceremony, we offer either our ‘Unattended Direct Cremation’ or ‘Attended Simple Cremation’.
Or
Making use of our charming on-site space, The Pavilion (clicking the text will link to the Pavilion page), we are able to offer families either an intimate (The Pavilion ’Simple’) or more comprehensive (The Pavilion ‘Plus’) service for their loved one, followed by an unattended direct cremation.
We recognise that a ‘traditional’ or ‘normal’ funeral does not exist, so can tailor our services to give your loved one a truly unique and personal send off through our ‘Bespoke Funeral’.
Trotman Funeral Directors started in the winter of 1933 under the ownership of Mr. William John (Jack) Trotman and has become rooted in the village of Cranmore, near Shepton Mallet in Somerset and the surrounding community for the past four generations.
We are proud to say that the business still enjoys the active involvement of family with Mr Trotman’s grandson, John Reakes caring for the community just as he did. The newest member of staff is Lee Fagan D’Oris who has many years’ experience working with the bereaved.

Preplanning
As an independently owned funeral director, we’ll take the time to understand your wishes and tailor a plan to suit you. We can discuss these at our premises or in your home, at a time that is convenient for you.
The Pavilion
We are proud to offer the use of The Pavilion, which is based at our sister company’s award-winning premises ‘Willowfields’ in Glastonbury.
The Pavilion is a light, spacious and comfortable room which is fully equipped for meetings, funeral services, wakes and after funeral receptions, conferences, parties and classes.
Memorials
With over 65 years of experience in the funeral profession, our sister company Forsey and Son has built up an extensive knowledge of Memorial Masonry and can offer very competitive rates.
Whether a simple flower vase, cremation tablet, headstone or kerbs we have the expertise and competitiveness to meet your needs.
Bereavement Group
When someone we love dies, we can feel we are alone and that no one understands what we are going through.
There is no right way to grieve nor is there a set time period for how long we will be grieving. It is different for each of us. This in itself can make us feel alone at such a challenging time. However, we are not alone.
We are proud to be able to offer a bereavement support group led by our Bereavement and Outreach Lead, Lin Snell, called STEPS.
Our Commitment
At Trotman, we understand the gravity of entrusting us with one of life’s most solemn moments. Our unwavering commitment to excellence is not just about tradition, but about forging a connection with every family we serve. It’s the fusion of our history, our values, and our constant drive to innovate that sets us apart.
Below are the unique pillars that elevate our services, ensuring we provide more than just a funeral service – we offer an experience that’s both healing and memorable.
Where most funeral directors ask for full payment in advance, we only require a deposit to cover the third party costs, which we pay on your behalf, and then we can work with you to discuss a payment plan that will suit your personal circumstances.
Supporting local business and the community – we have very good working relationships with all of the local ministers and celebrants and ensure that we support local suppliers where possible, including florists, printers, coffin makers, caterers and venues among others.
Traditional, but keeping up with modern times. We are able to offer a very traditional funeral service but are not ‘stuck in the past’ and are a forward thinking company with an eye on our environmental impact (e.g. hybrid vehicles, willow coffins and frequenting green burial sites) and using technology to offer a better, more efficient service. Our premises are also purpose built, light, calming and modern.
Our clients are at the heart of what we do and it is by focussing on them that we offer such a high level of service, being empathetic and caring as well as professional. Our service offering is completely bespoke and can be tailored to any client request, from traditional funerals to more alternative funerals and venues.
We have a plethora of diversity within our team, as not all members come from a funeral background, but bring in knowledge and experience from lots of different industries. We are also able to offer our clients either a male or female funeral director.
Memberships of NAFD (The National Association of Funeral Directors) and SAIF (The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors) – we adhere to both codes of good practice and have regular inspections to ensure we are compliant.
Our fourth generation, family-run business has been operating in the local area for over 75 years and have a wealth of experience in dealing with all matters relating to the bereavement process and have a reputation for high quality, consistency and high level of client focus. This is evidenced by our 5* rating on Google.
All of our Funeral Directors are fully qualified in a nationally recognised funeral directors qualification. The entire team has a wide experience of the whole process from funeral planning, at-need funeral services, compassionate aftercare to extensive Memorial options.
